Academy Award for Best Picture

AMPAS

The Academy Awards - or more popularly The Oscars - are an annual event hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, an organisation with the goal of advancing the art of filmmaking.

Each year, the Academy bestows a number of awards on the year's best in film, including best actors, sound, special effects, and, the most prestigious of them all, best picture.

The award itself has undergone a number of name changes since it was first handed out at the Academy's inaugural ceremony in 1927, being known as "Outstanding Picture" in its first two years, "Outstanding Production" until 1940, "Outstanding Motion Picture" during the second world war, "Best Motion Picture" until 1961, before settling on "Best Picture" from 1962 onwards.

  1. I'm pleased to see that I've seen everyone since 1990, The Return of the King being my favorite one.

    1. That's pretty impressive... I've still a way to go! Most of the ones I've seen I've reviewed, but there are a few that I haven't (Oliver!, Braveheart, Titanic all come to mind)
