This film is not in the Empire 500.

Matthew McConnaughey reverts to his favourite rom-com genre as he plays Benjamin Barry, an advertising executive who bets his boss that he can make somebody fall in love with him within ten days to win a lucrative diamond contract.

Meanwhile, Kate Hudson acts as Andie Anderson, a magazine journalist who writes how-to columns. In a bid to further her career she feel forced into writing an article about all the things that women do that drive men away. As part of her challenge she must entice a man in, before getting him to dump her - with her article being called How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days.

Naturally, both are paired up by their relative superiors, and the film plays out the story of Andie trying to lose Benjamin while trying to supress her own emotions at the lengths he'll go to to keep her.

How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days does have its comedic moments, the highlights mostly being the extremities that Andie goes to drive Benjamin away - ranging from making him miss the vital moments in a basketball game to complaining when their "love fern" has died.

That said, the film is rather predictive, and while it is one of the better films in the genre, it fails to deliver anything spectacular in the ending.
